
KMSF re-introduces training rallies

Newcomers aspiring to become rally drivers are invited to the event in standard vehicles to learn more about rally requirements
Kenya Motorsport Federation (KMSF), under the Run What you Brung (RWYB) flagship have re-introduce Training Rally's with the first edition set for 13 November at Lisa Farm in Machakos hosted by Sikh Union.
The one-day rallies run on one stage repeated severally are aimed at welcoming grass-root competition for newcomers into motorsports by creating an affordable stepping stone into the world of rallying.
To keep costs down, no reconnaissance and service will be permitted so as to help keep expenses to a minimum and make it affordable for entrants.
Pace notes by a recognised Driver/Co driver will be made available at sign on digital with a YouTube link of the stage dash cam video. In turn, it also provides an opportunity to mentor and train volunteers.
Entries for the 13 November event are now open. This Training Rally will be run in compliance with the FIA International Sporting Code, its appendices, the Kenya Motorsport Federation (KMSF) National Sporting Regulations and the National Rally Sport Regulations which comply with the FIA regulations and Training Rally Supplementary Regulations.
Modifications, amendments and / or changes to these Supplementary Regulations will be announced by event specific Supplementary Regulations and numbered and dated Bulletins issued by the organiser or the Stewards.
All competitive stages are set on gravel with a distance not exceeding 100km while the liaison distance is set not to exceed 50km.
Drivers are allowed to register for Group N+ Drivers and Co-Drivers -Group S Drivers and Co-Drivers, Special Prepared Vehicles (SPV) Drivers and Co-Drivers, Classic Drivers and Co-Drivers, Rally Raid Drivers and Co-Drivers, SSV Drivers and Co-Drivers, Junior Driver (drivers aged 25 years old or younger as of 15 January of the year of competition) categories.
Vehicles that do not comply to SPV and SSV class but are permitted in KMSF Rally Raid events are also allowed to enter. There will,however, be no motorbikes or quads involved.
"Training rallies have produced some of Kenyan greatest drivers including reigning champion Baldev Chager who reigned supreme in the events around mid 90s. No sport can thrive without development at grassroots level.
It is a platform that seeks to spread practical knowledge and experience to the next generation of rally stars," KMSF boss Phineas Kimathi said in a launch for last year's series.
Newcomers aspiring to become rally drivers are invited to the series in standard vehicles to learn more about requirements and how to to take their rallying careers to the next level. They are, however, required to adhere to requisite safety rules as stipulated in KMSF National Competition Rules.
